Recipe for a Good Day
I’m using this time to go through my inbox… and I’m finding some gems! Here’s a poem I write after a creative writing day in July 2023…
Recipe for a Good Day
Recognise you have a choice in every situation. That's what makes us human.
Choose to see positivity.
Choose to believe in people.
Choose to believe in the world.
Spend time in nature. We are not the reason the world exists, in fact, the world probably would be far better off without us.
Know your place, take up your space. Not too much, not too little, just the right amount.
Choose people, things, activities, pursuits, adventures that will fill you up with positivity.
Choose to say no and stay at home.
Smile.
If in doubt, smile.
When you wake up, when you go to bed, when you are sitting in your home when you are walking on your way. Smile.
Breathe: Take three deep breaths.
Be present. Give what you are doing your full attention.
Find beauty and take it in. In nature, in art, in the micro and in the macro.
When your alarm goes off in the morning, get up immediately and with us much energy as you can.
Remove any decision making out of your first hour awake, and definitely don't touch your phone or respond or react to anything. Keep your phone away, hidden, turned off for at least that first hour.
Set your intention for the day. Repeat it, out loud, looking in the mirror, three times.
Breathe: Take three deep breaths.
Drink water.
Choose to be positive, to see positive to create positive for others.
Remind yourself of your intention throughout the day.
Breathe: Take three deep breaths.
Don't be afraid to reset at any point. How? Breathe: Take three deep breaths.
Don't be hard on yourself. Be kind, give yourself the benefit of the doubt.
And, if it hasn't worked, or something unravelled, don't forget you have a chance to try again - tomorrow is a new day.
